How to Refresh Your Skincare Routine for Spring

Do you live in a cold climate? If so, you’re probably beyond excited for the spring season to begin. Since we don’t really experience seasons here in Miami we usually have the same skincare routine year-round. However, in most parts of the world with seasons, chances are you swap out your skincare products depending on the weather.

Since spring is right around the corner (March 20, in case you didn’t know), we figured it would be a perfect time to give you some ideas on how to “spring clean” your skincare routine to prepare for the change in temperature so you can keep your skin glowing no matter the weather! Keep reading to see the swaps and adjustments we recommend making to be sure your skincare routine will be ready for spring.

Spring Skincare Swaps to Make for Warmer Weather

Not sure where to start with your spring skincare routine? Begin by swapping out heavier products and beginning to exfoliate more often to buff away the dry and dead skin cells from winter so you can keep your skin glowing and smooth!

  1. Swap your Heavy Winter Cream for A Lightweight Moisturizer

Now that the weather’s getting warmer, your skin probably no longer requires your usual heavy-duty winter cream. Swap it out for a lightweight, hydrating moisturizer. And most of all, don’t forget to keep a great SPF of 30 or higher in your skincare rotation.

  1.  Exfoliate Dead Skin Cells to Reveal Your Glowiest Skin Yet

When we think of spring skincare, we think of fresh, glowing skin that’s youthful. One of the best ways to unlock that lit from within glow is with an exfoliator. Our Coffee Crush Exfoliating Peeling Gel is our secret to a smooth, bright and healthy-looking complexion. It functions as both a physical and chemical exfoliant, so you can target dullness, uneven texture, dark spots and fine lines. We like to use this once a week to keep our skin smooth and glowy!

  1. Add a Body Scrub to Your Shower Routine

After a long winter of wearing heavy sweaters and coats, the skin on your body is probably in need of a little love to get rid of all dead skin cells and buff away dry skin. Prep the skin on your body so it’s ready for baring all with a body scrub. We love our Buffing Beans Coffee Scrub because not only does it smell like a vanilla latte, it’s actually extremely effective at revealing baby soft skin.

  1. Ease into self-tanning with a gradual tanner

We recommend self-tanning rather than getting a tan from the sun because of the damage the sun does to your skin and body. With the right self-tanner, you’ll give yourself a healthy glow minus the sun, and you can look tan any day of the year!. Pro-tip: apply AFTER exfoliating for best results.

  1. Spring Clean your Product Stash

Are you guilty of hoarding tons of skincare products in your beauty cabinet? If that sounds like you, you should definitely spring clean your bathroom and get rid of old skincare products to avoid potentially harmful bacteria. Here are some dates to keep in mind for common skincare products and their expiration dates:

Moisturizer

Moisturizer can be kept for 6 months to a year. If your moisturizer comes in a jar that you dip your fingers into, be aware that you’re potentially contaminating it with bacteria from your hands. We suggest keeping your moisturizer stored at room temperature to maximize its shelf life. If you’re looking for a new moisturizer to swap for the spring, our Whipped Moisturizing Cream comes in a tube (so you don’t have to worry about contamination!) and is perfectly lightweight and hydrating.

Body Lotion

Body lotion lasts a little longer, about 6 months to a year. If you don’t remember the year you bought your body lotion… you’d probably be best finding a new body lotion to use this season. We love our Smooth as Butter body butter because it makes the skin on your body look smooth and supple, just in time for warmer weather!

Cleanser

Cleansers last up to a year, so if yours is older than that or you’re looking for a new cleanser for spring, check out our Better Bean Clean Face Coffee Cleanser.

 An Example Spring Skincare Routine

Now that you know the product swaps to make to your skincare routine for spring, it’s time to put it all together in an easy skincare routine. We have plenty of skincare routine posts on our blog, so be sure to check out some of our other posts for more inspiration.

  1. Cleanse

You should always cleanse your skin before doing the rest of your routine. Cleansing the skin is a way to remove any pollution, dirt, grime, makeup or SPF that’s been sitting on your face all day. Plus, skincare products are far more effective on clean skin.

  1. Tone

Toner preps your skin for the rest of your skincare routine, removing leftover dirt or grime that you might have missed in your cleansing step. It also helps condition and soften the skin for a clean feel.

  1. Treatment/Serum

A treatment that’s targeted for your specific skincare concerns is a must-have in any skincare routine. We prefer to use an antioxidant serum in the mornings, like Vitamin C and follow with a different serum in the evening routine.

  1. Moisturizer and/or SPF

If your skin is a little drier you will probably want to put a moisturizer on in the morning before SPF, but oily skin types can usually get away with using SPF as their moisturizing step. The last step in any morning skincare routine should always be an SPF, especially in the spring and summer when the sun’s rays are stronger. An SPF of 30 or higher is a must-have and should be reapplied as needed.
