How to Show Your Skin TLC Post-Halloween Makeup

How to Show Your Skin TLC Post-Halloween Makeuo

Picture this: it’s the night of Halloween, and you’ve just come home with a full face of makeup. Fake eyelashes, colorful face paint, tons of foundation, and maybe even some special effects makeup if it went with your costume. Fast forward to the next morning - you fell asleep with your intense Halloween makeup on and your skin is not happy. Fear not - we have come up with a plan to show your skin a little extra TLC, so you no longer have to struggle with breakouts and clogged pores from fun Halloween nights.

While getting ready for Halloween is fun for you, the same can’t always be said for your skin! Sure, stage makeup and face paint that is often used for Halloween makeup might look cool,  but it is often heavy and comedogenic on the skin leading to consequences. If you’re going out for a Halloween party, or accompanying little ones Trick or Treating, chances are you might also have a little sweat or grime left on the skin. The combination of the heavy makeup and sweat is a recipe for breakouts and clogged pores on the skin, but there are ways to take care of your skin to hopefully avoid or prevent future breakouts from happening.

Keep reading to see our plan of action to show your skin a little TLC if you’ve slept in your makeup. And don’t worry - we’ve all been there before!

Step 1: Remove Excess Makeup

Using a gentle makeup remover wipe or micellar water, remove any visible eye makeup or face paint to the best of your ability. Be gentle on your skin and don’t tug or rub your face - this is just the first step to remove the excess makeup before we double cleanse the skin.

Step 2: Cleanse

The first step to any skincare routine is to cleanse the skin. We suggest starting off with an exfoliating cleanser like our Better Bean Coffee Cleanser to buff away any impurities like flaky skin patches left behind from drying makeup or face paint and any rough texture. It’s gentle on the skin but will leave you feeling refreshed!

Step 3: Cleanse Again

You should do a second cleanse just to be sure you’ve removed all waterproof and long-wearing makeup. Once your skin is sufficiently cleansed, you’ll be ready to go on with the rest of your skincare routine to treat and target skin concerns.

We love the Macchiato Foaming Cleansing Scrubber to gently exfoliate with naturally-derived ingredients such as Echinacea Purpurea Extract, Rosemary Extract and Ginseng Extract that work together to diminish the appearance of impurities.

Step 4: Mask!

After wearing your Halloween “mask” of heavy makeup, one of the best ways to treat your skin is to use a face mask that will draw out impurities and detoxify the skin. Our recommendation: the Magnetic Beans Mud Mask that harnesses the powers of magnetic healing to go deep and banish the look of clogged skin. It gently exfoliates and will help cleanse and purify the skin while leaving it feeling soft and smooth.

Step 5: Tone + Prep

A great toner will help remove any lasting bits of dirt or makeup left behind on the skin after cleansing. It will also help prepare the skin for the rest of your skincare routine and allow the following products to really sink in to the skin and work more effectively.

Make sure you are using a gentle toner that won’t dry out your skin. The Fresh Brew Facial Toner was specifically formulated to soothe skin with ingredients like chamomile and linden flower extract. After a night of Halloween festivities, your skin will definitely need soothing and gentle ingredients like the ones found in this toner.

Step 6: Treat Your Under-eyes

Can’t forget about your eyes! Lack of sleep can cause dark circles and our under eyes to look puffy, especially if you were drinking the night before. We always keep under eye masks in our fridge so they are easy to reach after a long night. You can pop these on as soon as you wake up, but we like to do it after our skin is sufficiently cleansed so they can work more effectively. You can leave them on as long as you like, but aim for at least 15 minutes.

Step 7: Moisturize

Did you know that when you sleep, your skin goes into a renewal mode where it regenerates skin cells and recovers from the day? If you sleep in your makeup, your skin won’t be able to recover as well overnight, so chances are your skin is still feeling dry from your Halloween night of fun.

You should use a hydrating and gentle moisturizer that won’t clog pores and will soothe your skin after a long night. Bonus points if you give yourself a facial massage while applying your moisturizer to help you look more awake.

Step 8: Target Breakouts (optional)

If you have any visible breakouts forming from the night before, you should pop on a pimple patch to keep it protected from your hands, dirt and grime, and help the spot heal as the day goes on. They’re also clear, so you can wear them out and about without anyone noticing.

Now you’ll have a plan of action for how to take care of your skin after Halloween, or any night when you fall asleep in heavy makeup. If you know it’s going to be late when you get home and you’ll be too tired to wash your face, you can also keep a pack of gentle makeup remover wipes or micellar water with cotton pads on your nightstand so you can easily remove some of the makeup before bed.
